A new government report has outlined how for the first time action will be taken to address the full range of issues affecting people with mental health problems, rather than focusing solely on medical needs. NIMHE is at the forefront of tackling this issue - click here for details of our work in this area.

Better knowledge sharing in Mental Health

Better knowledge sharing in Mental Health
Hundreds of people have joined NIMHE's Knowledge Community since it was demonstrated at the annual conference in Brighton last month. The Knowledge Community is an important part of the organisation's strategy for promoting joined up working. We are also consulting with users about the future shape and content of this Web site, so please share your ideas with us.

Plan your NHS visit

Some NHS facilities are appointment only and cannot handle emergency appointments. Use the NHS Service Finder to find your nearest service and the available facilties. Alternatively, you can also call 111 from any phone to connect directly and get advice over the phone.

Before you visit your local facility, make sure you have the correct address and the telephone number for the relevant department on hand. This will make it easier and quicker for you to get to your desired destination. Most NHS facilities have a car park nearby. You can find the car park details from the NHS website. Be aware that sometimes, the parking payment machines are broken and you might need cash to pay for your parking. If you need to find a bank ATM to withdraw cash, use the website bank opening times to see a list of banks available on your route.

The NHS mental health services are fairly new and thus the waiting times might be above average. The latest providor is NHS Stockport and we are working around the clock to improve our service times. If you want to provide us feedback, feel free to use the visitor satisfation form which is available at every facility.

Be aware of NHS phone Scams

Scammers pretending to be from the NHS are doing dishonest activities in England and Scotland. They use tricks like asking for bank information in order to get a small payment for things like equipment insurance and outpatient treatment. Sometimes they ask for money related to COVID-19 tests and vaccinations too.

Remember, the NHS will never call you and ask for your bank account details, credit or debit card information, or money for their services. If someone claims to be from the NHS and asks for these things over the phone, they are lying.

If you have any doubts about a call being fraudulent, ask the caller for their name and location (not their phone number). If you do need to verify their phone number, use the who called me website to see what other people are saying and only then call back. You can also reach out to a trusted NHS number to confirm the legitimacy of the call.

If you're unsure about a call, take a moment to think it through. Scammers often try to rush you into taking action. Do not use the contact number they provide you with.
